Our New Neighbor :)

We cannot wait for this -
One of Pennsylvania Horticultural Society President Drew Becher’s most exciting and widely appealing ventures is the PHS Pop-Up Garden concept, which launched last June in a long-vacant lot at 20th and Market Streets.
The idea behind the pop-up garden was to convert unused land into a temporary green oasis, growing vegetables, herbs, grains and flowers and hosting special on-site programming open to the public including workshops, tours and family events.
Super impressively, the garden was chosen for inclusion in the official U.S. presentation at the 13th International Venice Architecture Biennale, which will be held from August 29 through November 25, 2012.
Now the PHS Pop-Up Garden is returning for Year Two, to a brand new spot, perhaps even cooler than the last. It’s at the unused lot at 19th and Walnut Streets next door to Born Yesterday, right across the street from Rittenhouse Square.
This year the design will highlight PHS’s City Harvest Program which brings fresh produce to underserved communities, and the farm-to-table movement that is undergoing a resurgence in Philadelphia and other cities throughout the country.
The garden will be rustic, featuring a long farm table with seating parallel to Walnut Street. A mixed perennial and vegetable border will be planted behind it, and the rest of the site will be planted as a meadow, with a path meandering through it. There will also be cool wall projections, adding to the extremely ahead-of-the-curve nature of this project.
The entrance will be right on Walnut Street, with the back of the garden abutting Moravian Street. The fence at Moravian will stay up, so you won’t be able to enter there, but there will be seating back there.
The table and other architectural elements will be reused from the Philadelphia Flower Show Exhibit from this past March.
Tentative opening date is June 22; stay tuned for more information.

Feeling Neutral?

We know a lot of you aren't finding out what the sex of your upcoming bundle of joy will be (or are at least keeping it a secret!), so when we saw this invitation idea we had to share.
Giuliana and Bill Rancic's upcoming baby shower is in a few weeks, and haven't told the guests what sex the baby is. Instead, they registered for all neutral gifts and will reveal the sex of the baby at the shower! Talk about surprises.....
